London calling….. Vince Hancock, August 21, 2011 Hi every one. Its been 2 days since i’ve updated this so I will give you the run down on the last 48 hours of the traveling newf. Yesterday was a mixed bag of moods & emotions for the Topdeck gang. We awoke in Cardiff to hear that our coach had been broken in to the night before. The door had been also left open so the battery also drained. Unfortunately a couple people had left valuables on the bus and they were stolen. The odd thing is, the thief’s walked past the drivers laptop and dvd’s and walked to the back of the bus and stole some of the girls clothes, perfume and some jewelery. An upsetting start to the day but we dealt with it and hit the road. Our first stop that day took us to the majestic town of Bath. Centered around the ancient roman baths which were believed to be healing, the town now consists of spectacular buildings assembled in a scenic valley a couple hours outside London. Here we wandered around for a couple hours and took in a lunch. It was short and sweet and worth the time. Bath is a town I would like to find my way back to in the future and spend more time exploring. Once we were back on the road again, we headed to world famous Stonehenge. This was one of the many highlights of this trip, something i’ve wanted to see my whole life and there I was, standing face to face with the iconic mystery rock formation some believe were put there by druids. It was smaller than I had expected but jaw dropping none the less. The weather cooperated for us and we were all able to take many great pics. I once again took one with the Downhome magazine so lets see if I can get in there again. Once we spent some time wandering around and taking in the gift shop, we were back on the road again. This time we were headed in to London and the final stop for the tour, the time to say good bye to the family was quickly approaching. A little over an hour later, we were in London. The tour ended at the UMI hotel in the Notting Hill area of London. We unloaded our belongings and started saying our good byes. A very sad time indeed as we had quickly become a family. Some of us planned a couple things together here but most of us went off in our seperate directions. From there, Russ and I caught a cab to London’s Putney area where we met up with my friends Matt & Zulieka. Great friends I met on my last trip, originally from Australia, they had moved to London after our Egypt trip. It was so good to see them again and catch up. Later that night, Russ and I caught the train to the London eye where we met up with a few of the gang and hung out for a couple hours. We done the London eye which boasted a breath taking panoramic view of London. A must do for any one in London. Once we spent a few hours in that area, we headed home since were were all tired from the long day. Today, we got up early and the same group of us met at Piccadilly Circus and took the Hop on/off bus around the city. We got off at Buckingham Palace and watched the changing of the guards. An over the top event that happens every other day. Then came more touring until noon. Russ and I then headed back to Matt’s since he (Russ) was headed to Paris this afternoon. Once I got Russ situated and on his way, Matt, Zulieka and myself headed to Covent Park area and took in some markets and a nice dinner at a pub. I had the traditional english met pie and mashed potatoes. From there, we wandered around, every where from Piccadilly Circus, to Trafalgar Square to the Soho area. We headed home from there. Now we are just relaxing as the two of them have to work in the morning. I will head out tomorrow on my own and wander the streets if London town. Could there possibly be a better way to spend a monday? I think not! Any way, I hope you enjoyed today’s read, as you can see it was a roller coaster of high’s and lows but it all worked out and thats all that matters. The low’s just make for great conversation down the road. Have a wonderful night and Cheers from London. Blog
