Farewell Asia

Vince Hancock, March 20, 2012

Hi Every one, It is with a heavy heart that I write my final blog from Asia……on this particular trip!
I will start by bringing you up to speed on my past couple days here in tropical Singapore.
Yesterday I got up early and headed down to Orchard Road which is the major shopping street here. It is lined with high end stores, restaurants and for us less wealthy, some cheap malls! I just wandered around, taking pics and doing some minor shopping. I picked up a nice iced beverage at Starbucks and sat and just people watched for a while. I some times enjoy just sitting and watching the world walk by, perhaps even think of what their individual stories are.
Noon I grabbed a taxi back to the condo and cooled off by taking a dip in the pool for a bit before heading back to meet up with Lisa. We ended up back in the pool once again and stayed there for the better part of the afternoon. Some neighbors were around as well as the local kids. It was a great way to spend an afternoon. Last night was just relaxing while sitting outside and enjoying good conversation with a beverage or two.
Today I got up early and headed down to the water front and roamed around, taking in the scenery of my favorite city. Singapore may be the financial hub of South East Asia but to me it has a sense of home about it. It was my very first overseas destination back in 2010 so it has some sentimental value to say the least. It was here I broke thru the other side of a rough time in life and found travel, my one true love. I could go on and on about that but I try my best not to bore you all.
After a great morning wandering around, I headed back home and took the ritual dip in the pool before Lisa got home from work. Once she arrived home, we just spent the evening chatting and watching movies. A very low key yet great way to enjoy each others company before my inevitable departure early tomorrow morning. The past couple weeks has gone way too fast, as they always do when I travel.
That leads me to now, I am enjoying my last few hours here, trying not to think of the long flight and the return to reality tomorrow. The positive thing about that is I can now start dreaming up the next big adventure. I seem to have attracted quite the following with my blog and pictures. It was unexpected but I appreciate all the comments and well wishes as I gradually make my way around the world. I promise you there is much more to come and I hope you will all follow me as this travel thing progresses down the road. I have some ideas to dress up my blog for the next trip as well.
I will drop a quick blog when I arrive home, with a summery of my trip and thoughts on the last couple weeks. I will conclude by saying good night from Singapore.
