Hey everyone Vince Hancock, August 14, 2011 Hi everyone. Just checking in to give an update on today’s events. Today was our free day in Galway so 13 of us decided to head off to the Aran Islands. The Aran Islands are a group of 3 islands approx 9 kms of the coast of Galway. We took the shuttle to the ferry for the morning crossing. I can honestly say it was one of the roughest ferry crossings i’ve ever endured and keep in mind, I grew up on an Island. The trip was 45 minutes and the fact I made it across without revisiting last nights Guiness is a miracle in itself. Once we docked, the rest of the day was wonderful. The weather stayed sunny the whole day and as we were told, that is something to be very thankful for here in Ireland. Most of us went off our own ways for the day. A few of us hired a tour bus to take us to the destinations we were interested in seeing. The whole island was just one magazine worthy pic after another. Jagged cliffs, stone ruins and coast lines to rival the best Newfoundland has to offer. My camera got a workout indeed. The ferry back was still rough again but not as bad as the way over. I had to stand outside both ways to keep from getting sick. Small price to pay for such an experience. There are always things in travel that will throw the proverbial wrench in the day but as they say, you can’t have the sweet without the sour. The sour being the little lows in between the highs. Tonight seems to be a relaxing night as are getting up early to head south to Killarney and all that has to offer. A definite sadness takes over when you leave a place so beautiful as Galway, however there is much more to come. Hope all is well in your part of the world, they sure are great here in Ireland.
