Hanoi Airport any one??? Vince Hancock, March 8, 2012 Well…..I made it! I am back in Asia once again…..Vietnam to be exact. It started as a great flight over. I flew 13.5 hours from Toronto to Tokyo, where I had a 3 hour stop. Then I boarded my JAL (Japan Airlines) for the remaining 6 hour flight to Hanoi. Everything seemed to be going smooth until I picked up my luggage at Hanoi Airport and realized my airport transfer wasn’t there to to pick me up. I looked around for a bit and then asked a worker for help. He looked at my paper work and dealt me the blow, the news no traveler wants to hear. I was in Hanoi……but I was supposed to be in Ho Chi Minh! I knew this beforehand but when I was issued my plane ticket at my travel agency, I assumed Hanoi was yet another name for Ho Chi Minh such as Saigon etc. However in this case, I was very wrong and so was my travel agent. I was supposed to be 1000 kms north in Ho Chi Minh and here it was midnight and I was stuck! For the first few moments, panic was setting in but then I pulled it together and start making calls to Canada. My agent was aghast at the situation and came to my rescue. She booked me on the 6 am flight to HCM and took care of the other few related problems. Altho that was taken care of, I was now swapping my nice hotel room in HCM for a night in a chair at the Hanoi Airport. Every traveler experiences such set backs once in a while so all you can do is go with the flow. I made it thru my uncomfortable night, boarded yet another flight and made it to my hotel room 10 hours later than expected. I can say this, a shower was greatly needed after all that. Approx 35 hours to get here but im here and I couldn’t be happier with it. One positive outcome is that I landed in the daylight as opposed to late night so got some great pics of the landing, and the drive to the hotel was great. You know you’re in Asia when there is 10 motor bikes for every car on the road…….and theres a million cars on the road! Asian driving is something to be experienced to say the least……from the passenger seat that is! So i’m here, i’m showered, i’ve eaten the free buffet breakfast and i’m gonna put foot to pavement and explore for a little while. I will be adding pics to Facebook when possible and updating you all of my journey on here. Until then, Chao Blog
